     These case studies show the performance using Sitelab’s UVF-3100 analyzer testing hydrocarbons in the TPH C10 to C36 Diesel and Oil range.

     When calibrated using Sitelab's popular EDRO calibration kit (CAL-042), the UVF analyzer produces test results that correlate well to laboratory GC-FID regulatory methods for TPH, EPH, DRO and many others.  The UVF is fitted with special optical filters sensitive to hydrocarbons commonly found in heating oils, diesel fuel and crude oils.  This is the most accurate field screening tool on the market!





Petroleum Tank Farm Site

Sitelab used on-site to test soils contaminated with a subsurface plume of fuel oil.  Soils were collected using a Geoprobe.  Consultant uses UVF EDRO data to verticle profile LNAPL in the subsurface.  Results correlated well to certified laboratory using EPA Method 8100 by GC.

Accuracy vs. Total EPH at Wharf Site

Environmental site assessment performed on a commercial wharf property in Massachusetts once used to store heating oil, diesel and gasoline.  Confirmatory samples were performed using the Mass DEP's EPH method and results correlated well.  In two days, a total of 75 soil samples were tested.  UVF data was used create map showing site's contamination.

Applications Testing Crude Oil in Texas

Customer in Western Texas uses their UVF-3100D to help excavate and remediate soils contaminated by produced water and crude oil.  Laboratories in Texas test TPH using the TX 1005 GC-FID Method.  This method is similar to U.S. EPA Method 8015M, but reports the GRO, DRO and ORO fractions separatelay.

Crude Oil Pipeline Spill in Nigeria

Samples collected from a pipeline spill were tested by a client.  Split samples were sent to Sitelab for EDRO analysis and results were the same.  Samples were also sent to a Nigerian lab and a highly reputable lab in the United States for confirmation.  Labs from different countries report TPH in different carbon ranges.

Heavy Crude Oil in Soil & Produced Water

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment requires laboratories to use the CCME’s Petroleum Hydrocarbon (PHC) Method, where GC-FID instrumentation is used to report EPH hydrocarbons in fractions.  Sitelab’s EDRO test detects hydrocarbons in the C10 to C36 carbon range, but the UVF will pick up heavier compounds up to C50 (bitumen).  Results correlate well to the Canadian lab method when adding the EPH fractions together.
