Sitelab’s TPH OIL calibration kits CAL-056 and CAL-057 are used to measure hydrocarbons in the C15 to C50 "Oil and Grease" Range.  This test matches well to U.S. EPA 1664, 9071B and similar gravimetric methods for oil in water, oil in soil applications.

UVF-TRILOGY Performance

This performance study compares UVF-TRILOGY to the TD-500D analyzer.  Both instruments are fitted with similar optical filters and produce accurate results over a wide range of contaminants.  Samples only take a few minutes to extract in solvent and analyze.  Minimum detection limit is 0.5 ppm.

Crude Oil and Waste Oil Applications

  • U.S. Dept. of Energy uses UVF to monitor bioremediaton sites contaminated with crude oil from old oil wells.

  • Contractor rents UVF to field screen soils on a Brownfield redevelopment site.

  • Auto scrap yard recycling facility tests their ground up non-metal waste called "fluff", for off-site disposal at a landfill.

Monitoring Produced Sand for Overboard Discharge

Location: offshore oil platform in the South China Sea, Malaysia. 

Produced sand is generated from oil and gas production and must be disposed off-site or dumped overboard.  Customer uses TD-500D to help monitor and treat produced sand contaminated with crude oil in order to meet their 10,000 ppm (mg/Kg) discharge limit.

Performance Testing TPH in Water

Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons is a test common to the oil industry used to measure concentrations of crude oils, lubricating oils and waste oils in water. 

The oil can be used to calibrate the analyzer for accurate TPH measurement.  Sitelab results correlated well to EPA Methods 1664 by Gravimetric and 418.1 by IR.

Testing TPH at Lumwana Copper Mine, Zambia

Equinox Minerals operates the biggest copper mine in Africa, located at Lumwana in Northwest Province, Zambia.  Open pit mining methods are used to access the ore which is hauled to the process plant where it is crushed and processed into final concentrate.  Scientists used Sitelab's hand held TD-500D analyzer and test kits to measure hundreds of soil samples contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons resulting from their mining operations.  SEE FEATURE STORY!

Weathered Crude Oil in Persian Gulf

Funded by the United Nations, a contractor to the Saudi Arabian government used Sitelab's UVF-3100 analyzer as part of an international effort to investigate soils and beach sand along the Persian Gulf resulting from the 1991 Iraq War.  Clean and dirty samples collected from different sites were sent to a certified laboratory.  Table shows UVF accuracy over a wide range of concentrations.
